Past

When Nyyrikki's mother was seventeen she arrived to Elirion. She claimed she was a minor noble from a small town to the east, but there was no truth to this story. Her father had been an wealthy merchant not an member of the noble class as she lead others to believe. However, no one question her story. It might have been because she left an impression on everyone at court. Regardless of her heritage, she knew how to conduct herself as a noble. It might have been that no one cared. Why should they worry about some minor noble in some backwater village? Either way, she knew she had to cement herself as a member of the nobility before anyone caught wind of the truth. It didn't take her long to catch the attention of Baron Antero Talvet. He was an older man known to be quite eccentric. While whispers spread to every corner of The Summer Palace and even beyond the exact nature of their relationship was unknown. This surprised no one whom knew The Baron. He was an extremely private man. When Nyyrikki's mother was named The Baron's heir upon his death everyone just assumed the rumors about them getting married in a small private ceremony had been true. The never considered other possibilities.

Their assumptions didn't matter to Nyyrikki's mother. She had what she needed. Undeniable proof that she was a member of the aristocracy. It didn't matter what she had been before, she was now legitimately a member of the club. It was not enough. She had no desire to spend the rest of her life as a Baroness. She sought to rise higher, and without wasting any time she managed to garner the attention of Viscount Pyrro. They were married only months after meeting. A fact that had many raising their brow, but when she begun to show not long after their wedding everyone seemed to understand their haste. She gave birth several months after tying the knots, but no one knows what happened to the baby. They only knew she entered the birth chamber with her midwife and emerged later with no new bundle of joy. This happened three more times, and each time Viscount Pyrro appeared more heartbroken. Nyyrikki's mother, however, seemed unaffected. This led many to believe that she had done something to the babies. What exactly no one could say for certain.

Not long after their fourth attempt to have a child The Viscount took his own life. Rumors circulated that Nyyrikki's mother had been responsible, but since there wasn't any actual proof no charges was brought up against her. Several years passed before his mother decided to marry again. Once again she found herself rising within rank. Her next husband was Earl of Kholya--a strapping young man whom was rumored to be the illegitimate child of King Avior's father. Whatever the truth, King Avior and The Earl of Kholya were extremely close. Whenever the King traveled outside of Elirion the Earl went with him. They were often gone for extended period of time, and Nyyrikki's mother found ways to entertain herself during her husband's absence. It was usually taking lovers into her chambers. Others tried to tell her husband of her infidelity, but he would not hear it. However, when she became pregnant during one of his extended absences many saw this as all the evidence they needed to prove to The Earl that his wife had been unfaithful.

Nyrrikki's mother knew news of what she had done should never reach her husband. She knew that if he learned the truth that everything she had work for would go down the drain, and that was not something she could allow. On the day of Vaikuuden Paevai she took a potion that induced labor, and before the day was over she gave birth to Nyyrikki. The only thing left was decide what should be done with him. She could leave him somewhere. It wasn't uncommon for children born during an time without any moons within the sky to be simply abandoned. Another option was giving Nyyrikki to the Elite Guards that serve the royal family. Neither sound appealing. She knew that if she picked either of those choices that any usefulness that Nyyrikki might provide for her would be gone. He would either be dead or more loyal to someone else. This was not something she could have, and it was for this reason she decided to give him to The Cult of Drormir.

The Cult was more than happy to take Nyyrikki off her hand. They told his mother that once she gave them her son that he would no longer be her child. She agreed to this term, but years later it becomes clear that she didn't understand it. She wasn't the only one whom had failed to comprehend The Cult and what it means to give your child to the order. In fact, it happened often enough that The Cult bet among themselves whether or not Nyyrikki's mother would grasp what it meant to give her child to them. They wasted no time starting Nyyrikki's training. They taught him everything he needed to know about the cult and what it meant to be a member. They forced him to endure countless tortures in order to dwell within his mind the idea that nothing matters as well as to severe any connection with his mother and any family he might have had with her.

While he was busy being brought up by the order The Earl had an unfortunate accident. Many suspected Nyyrikki's mother was behind The Earl's untimely demise, but once again there was no proof to be found. It didn't take long for his mother to find her next husband in the Marquis of Ylve. However, for the first time since she begun her climb Nyyrikki's mother seemed generally fond of the Marquis. She did not wander to other men's bed, and she even gave birth to a baby boy whom she doted on completely. It seemed that she found a place within the world that she was content if not happy. That was until the order had Nyyrikki kill her precious little family as part of his full initiation into the order. They didn't exactly tell him to kill The Marquis and his son, but rather two of the three members of his mother's new family and report back to them why he had chosen the two he did.

He did the deed--perhaps not as gruesomely as some might have liked--but he made it clear that the Order was responsible. He stayed long enough to see his mother's reaction to what he had done. He had not known she was pregnant with the Marquis' second child until she had a miscarriage over what she had saw. He left his mother wailing to return to Order and give his report as they requested. He told them that he spared his mother because she had been the one to give him to the Order. Not for revenge, but to show his mother that the Order had no alliance with her. He was lying, of course, revenge had been a major motivator behind his decision. He taught of the life he might have lived if his mother hadn't thrown him into the pit, and he wanted her to taste just a small ounce of the torment he had to endure even before his first memory. The Order didn't catch onto his deception or if they had they said nothing. Satisfied with his answer they welcomed him as full fledged member.

His mother remained in her home for several weeks and when she emerged she resumed her climb up the social ranks. Once again, she showed how easily she could attract a husband by marrying The Duke of Lyykela within no time. It was clear to many within the court that she held no love for her husband he was just merely a stepping stone towards her next conquest, and they could all see whom that was---King Avior. However, she would find catching the King's attention impossible while his wife--Queen Kiziah--still lived. The King absolutely adored his wife, whom he had five children with. Nyyrikki's mother was not the first whom sought the King's attention, only to discover that he only had eyes for his Queen. This did not deter his mother. She kept herself close to the king in hopes that if something happened to the queen that he might turn his attention towards her.

The Duke appeared unaware of his wife's ambitions or her infidelity, at least for a time. He made it clear he was aware that she was sharing other men's beds, but since he was unable to give her a child he had granted her permission to find other ways to have a child--especially since she had already shown herself capable of conceiving children with her previous husbands. Many wondered how true this was, or if it was something he merely said in order to keep himself from facing the truth about his wife. And while this was all happening, his mother begun to use Nyyrikki as her personal assassin by requesting him to complete any contract she presented to the order. Nyyrikki could have refused her request. He was free to pick and choice which contracts he accepted, but he found humor within the idea that his mother still believed he owed her some kind of alliance.

Over the years he assassinated many people for his mother. Through, he did refuse one from time to time, or let a contract go after agreeing to take it, but he did the same with any of his regular contacts. Many of his mothers contracts often brought him into the Summer Palace. It was here where he first laid eyes upon her---princess Sahar. She was the most beautiful thing he ever laid his upon. It wasn't just her physical form that he found radiating, and perhaps if it was only that he might not have admired her as he did. It was her soul--her spirit--which to him seemed to shine with the purist light within the entire universe. He knew that he wasn't forbidden to be with her. He could have her if that was his desire, but he wanted to claim her in ways that was forbidden within the orders. Ways that would make it clear that he was not as committed to the Order as they might like. Instead, he kept himself content with watching her from the shadows whenever he could.

Present

Everything changed when Queen Kiziah was killed in a terrorist attack while visiting a foreign country. The entire country felt her lose, and King Avior was deeply affected. He withdrew within himself, becoming a shell of his former self. Many claimed that it would be only a matter time before he abdicates the throne in order to allow the crown prince---Jozhe--to be crowned king. There are those among the aristocracy who believed the queen's death would only benefit them. Those whom thought the queen kept the king from coming around to their line of thinking. Nyyrikki's mother was among them. She believed that now was the perfect time to worm her way into the king's embrace. If he ever return to his right state of mind he would see her as the one whom constantly stayed at his side during is darkest hour, and that would endure her enough to him that she would marrying her. And if he never did with enough time and effort she could convince him that marrying her was the wisest idea. Either way, she would end up the most powerful woman within the entire kingdom.

She needed to take care of some things first. Within the next few weeks she had Nyyrikki assassinate people whom she believed stood in the way of her becoming queen. This did not please The Order. They did not like being used as a tool for one's political games. They had told her multiple times that they were not hers to use as she saw fit, and decided that since their words have gone unheeded that there was only one course of action left---to severe any possible future relationship with her. They declared her their newest contract, but before the deed was done they would allow her to have one last contract with them. Nyyrikki already knew what this last contract was. His mother often spoke of potential targets with him before she arranged for them to be assassinated. Princess Sahar was her latest displeasure. It was unclear why she disliked the Princess so. Was it because Sahar appeared to snub her and convinced others to do the same with just the act alone? Through, his mother didn't need any help alienating herself among her peers.

Was it because she believed the princess stood in the way of her goals? Whatever the reason he knew another could not take the contract. They might complete it before the one upon his mother's life. He stepped forward before anyone else could. Many applaud him. They believed that this showed he had truly severed ties with his emotions. They never imagined that it was because he felt so strongly for another that he agreed. Nyyrikki himself would not understand his true motivation until after he was standing over his mother watching the last of her life slip away. He intended to slip away into the night, never to return again to be attempt by things he have no rights to desire. However, fate seemed to have other things in mind. The moment he emerged from his mother's room three young woman greeted him---one of them was Princess Sahar.

He knew within that moment he would not stay away from her. One cannot offer a thirsty man water and expect him not to drink. He tried for some time, keeping himself busy with other contracts so he wouldn't be tempted to speak to the princess yet again. But, one day he did and he knew from that moment he wouldn't be able to stay away. He knows that this doesn't mean they'll be together. A woman like her would never be with a man like him. More than that he knows he should present himself to The Order and admit his currant affection. They would help him become free of it, but than whom would protect Princess Sahar from those whom wish to destroy her. Even a broken knife can kill.
